If you’ve never seen a solar eclipse in action before, now is your chance because NASA announced that one will be visible as early as next week.
According to the space agency, an annular solar eclipse dubbed “the ring of fire” will cross North, Central, and South America on Saturday Oct. 14.
In fact, millions of people in the Western Hemisphere will have the chance to experience it.
So, how does this phenomenon work? Apparently, this occurs when the sun, the moon, and Earth line up, either fully or partially.
Although a sight to behold, NASA warns of its dangers too.
“During an annular eclipse, it is never safe to look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection designed for solar viewing,” the agency said on its website.
“Observing our star, the Sun, can be safe and inspirational. Always wear eclipse glasses or use a solar filter. You can also use an alternative viewing method, such as a pinhole projector,” it continued.
